Trend Micro Internet Security is a robust security suite, offering users an large number of features. Included are not only the boilerplate virus and spyware detection and removal abilities, but also a firewall, data theft prevention monitoring, parental controls, and system restore backup features. In the parental control and data theft protection features, the program will monitor outgoing information and block it from being sent, including phone numbers, names, and credit card data. Trend Micro now includes a Smart Protection Network, as well, leverage anonymous data from its customers to determine when malicious threats are manifesting on user’s computers and blocking the threat. There’s also a gaming and video mode that the program automatically moves into when it detects gameplay or video watching, so that scans won’t interrupt you.

# Disconnect from the network
Physically disconnect your computer from the network, by removing the network cable, turning off the wireless adapter or hanging up the dial-up connection.

# Remove Existing Antivirus Software
For correct installation, you need to remove any existing antivirus software that might be on your computer. You must follow the manufacturer's instructions for removing the product. Generally, you will use the Add/Remove Programs control panel (in Start, Control Panel) to remove software.

# Download the installer

Install Trend Micro Internet Security (PC-Cillin)
Double-click the Trend Micro Internet Security (PC-Cillin) installer.

During the install, you will be prompted for the PC-Cillin license code. Enter the code that you received via e-mail in step 1. The email will have the most recent license key and will provide you with the expiration date of this key. The current key expires in June 2010.

Next you will be prompted to choose an install type. We recommend choosing the custom install as this will allow you to not install the Trend Micro Firewall which is unneeded when using the Windows Firewall (Windows Firewall is enabled by default, please see the HelpDesk if you have any questions.)

If you wish to install the firewall then simply leave this box checked otherwise please ensure that this window resembles the one below.

Trend Micro PC-Cillin 2009 will now be installed to your computer.

Once installed you will be prompted to activate the software. Simply click the Activate Now button.

# Activating PC-Cillin
To activate PC-Cillin register with your Rice email address. This is to ensure only Rice associated personnel are using the software.


Re-connect to the network
Re-connect your computer to the network via the network cable, wireless, or dial-up connection as you usually connect to the Internet. Double-click the PC-Cillin icon in the task bar, and select Update Now.
